A new configuration tool (in preview) is available for Office 365 Pro Plus (Office Click to Run) to help administrator to define and apply configuration policy.
This new capability helps to manage Office C2R installation on Windows without the ‘classic’ management infrastructure or MDM service.
The defined Office configuration will apply to both managed and unmanaged devices as it uses Azure Active DIrectory. It does not replace group policy objects for Active Directory domain joined devices.
Before starting you must ensure you meet the minimum requirements to ensure the policies will be applied properly
- Office 365 Pro Plus version 1808 or later
- Targeted users exist in Azure Active Directory (either cloud user object or synchronized user object)
- Security group exist in Azure Active Directory (either cloud user object or synchronized user object) – this will be used to target the policy
- Only user based settings are available
To start using it go to the Office client management portal here http://aka.ms/o365clientmgmt
Once you are logged as an administrator you can then define the policies you want by hitting the Go to Office policy management (or just using the left Policy Configuration menu)
After naming the policy and defining the target group you can define the configuration settings you want
If there is a policy setting conflict, prioritization can be used by defining the priority (0 is the highest priority).
Once you have configure your policy/policies, it will be applied the next time an Office application is started.
The policy settings are saved in the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Cloud\Office\16.0
